Conspiracy theories recur because they're not evidence-based inquiries into specific fact patterns, but rather Deep Stories--familiar emotionally charged narratives that can be invoked to make sense of almost anything.

I've talked about this many times. This particular conspiracy theory cost untold lives because people wouldn't go to the aid clinics for treatment.

They'd be talking about Pizzagate and they'd go 'Hollywood is next' or 'Pedowood is next' -- these were common refrains.
