'Clearly illustrates how planning is a key site of struggle over the ‘distribution of surplus value’, demonstrating how the system meets resistance at every stage from landowners and real estate investors.' Thanks to Regina Serpa for this review.

There is no question that it’s the resurgence of tenant movements that has put rent control back on the agenda proteanmag.com/2024/02/18/ren…

Final day of this historic encounter of tenants' unions in Barcelona. Vibrant speeches by lots of grassroots leaders. The best, in my opinion, was the sharing of how rent strikes were and could be organised. As known, this is one of the key weapons of the working class.

i struggle to articulate how much i hate build to rent - it is undeniably changing housing for the worst and for reasons beyond the obvious transfer of wages to global capital funds. it is absolutely imperative that the tenant movement is organised to fight back on this

Right, so lets talk about what's happening with rental prices in the UK.

We’ve got some brand-new rent data published by the ONS today which is exciting! Why ?*

Cirencester Park shows us two things.

1) Three centuries of permissive access is still not enough to protect that access. It can still be removed on a whim.

2) We need access reform to guarantee a new right of responsible access, to prevent such arbitrary decisions in future.

CityAM Persimmon said the firm said it expected to deliver between 10,000 and 10,500 completions for 2024, and it has full planning on 98 per cent of the homes. And presumably permission for the 10,000 homes originally scheduled for 23/24, but unbuilt. cityam.com/persimmon-brac…

5 Mar 1988 2,000 people took part in a demonstration through Leeds to protest against the homophobic Section 28 law which prohibited the so-called 'promotion of homosexuality' by local authorities and schools. It was eventually repealed in 2003. stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/10549/…

No surprise- another inquiry into housing monopolies and cartels finds no monopolies or cartels, but confirms house builders share non-public information on prices and sales allowing them to build out homes at the same constrained rate to keep prices high.
