Did you know that this week is Dark Sky Week? Birds can be disoriented by artificial lights, causing collisions and throwing migratory birds off their migration paths. Turning off excess lights can help create a safe passage for migrating birds, including these whooping cranes.

It’s World Water Day! Did you know that the Great Lakes contain one-fifth of the liquid surface freshwater on our planet? Providing drinking water for millions of people in North America, the Great Lakes are also a crucial habitat for endangered Piping Plovers!

It’s the first day of spring! As the weather gets warmer, many of our key #SpaceForBirds species will begin their migration. Follow along as we track their journeys, from the Red Knots in South America to the Whooping Cranes in Texas.

Through our Bondar Challenge, youth get to learn about photography while exploring nature up-close. As one participant said, nature photography “creates a sense of belonging and a greater understanding of your place in nature.”

Dr. Roberta Bondar’s time in space has shaped her work as an environmentalist and an educator. For her, the profile she was given as an astronaut is the “lasting gift” that allows her to bring attention to environmental issues.
