Hey Kia Canada the waiting room system is....so broken. Customer service is closed for the day. Some communications and support would be great?!

A thought for all facilitators: make your metaphors inclusive. Look at your audience. Do they know baseball?

AI / Big Data / ML - it's all the same. Effective regulation is possible, if public institutions are asked to take it on. It's an act of imagination - yes, but it's also our basic ethical obligation to protect.

Following the overwhelming success of the nine euro ticket experiment last summer, Germany will introduce a permanent €49 pass this spring.

The monthly subscription will allow unlimited travel on buses, trams, subways, and local trains across every region in the entire country.

This is... well, read it for yourself. And then think about why we need innovative, creative regulators who act in the public interest. nytimes.com/2023/02/16/tec…

A few years ago, I helped bring some community members together and a really prominent and successful Jewish woman made a comment that struck me very deeply. She roughly said, ‘for me to truly have trust, I would need to believe that you would hide me’. thread 1/10

We're seeing and hearing about burnout on a greater and greater scale. And the truth is that self-care isn't enough. We need community care to the greatest extent, and that means systemic change. Because this current system is robbing us of the ability to care for each other.

Just finished sarah thankam mathews fabulous 'All this could be different', hot on the tail of @HalaNAlyan's 'The Arsonists City' and all is well with the universe again. Good literature is good for the soul!

I love public libraries because they are built on the principle that books are so important and so necessary to human flourishing that access to them cannot depend on your income.

Hmm. 'the ‘ethics’ of AI ethics is much more malleable, more pliable, and more amenable to strategic operationalization than anticipated. Ethics, it’s said, can be 'washed and bashed.'

Corp governance is failing to embrace that the truth will out & thf the ethics must be real.

It's been a rough 6 weeks dealing with a suspension -- then erasure of the suspension -- of my son by his school/HWDSB.

Sharing part of our story, with my son's permission.

A 🧵on the use of suspensions, particular for Black/racialized kids. 1/13

Ever so accurate.

Plague diary, #115, a day late. This poem, by Ada Limón broke me when it was published in the NYT mag (thanks, Victoria Chang for what you do). It was cut out and hidden away in #1's drawer, & I hope it gives her the comfort it gives me. Who knew that comfort could hurt?

A bit of brilliance. It's true for environmental & social progress, lgbtq2s+ rights, essentially all projects of inclusion. It's a framing that makes you recognise the history, which (may?) force the question as to whom we continue to marginalise & why? Thanks, Dr. Alice Evans

Plague diaries #114 by Laura Da'. One key obligation as a settler in Canada=immersing myself in indigenous futures (@TheDHTaylor, Nick Estes, Jesse Wente & Douglas Sanderson+++). The reading made it clear to me that I needed to listen to the land. This lovely poem is a start.
