Yesterday's Black-winged Stilt is still here today. Looking at the photos we can see contrast on the mantle (yellow arrow) which points to it being a female (males have glossy backs) and a white trailing edge to the wing makes this a 2023 bird. Could this be last years fledgling?

More than 650 territorial pairs were recorded across the UK in 2023 - a 20% increase since 2016 - but illegal persecution continues to stifle their recovery.
