Caring for ppl who use drugs is about creating a safe space where ppl can tell you about what drugs they're using and how much and receive support + compassionate, evidence-based ways to use more safely. It's not about hiding use from you or you catching them with a + toxicology.

I just wrote a long, semi-coherent review of Whiteout on goodreads. in sum: 1) We've needed this book for a long time. 2) I thought there was little-to-no room left to blow my mind with drug policy insights. Wrong. 3) jnetherland made me cry. Rude. 100/10

I can’t tell you how many times patients have left without getting care they need or had things happen like overdoses from trying to self treat in hospital. Having overdose prevention centers/designated use sites in hospital is a great idea, actually, and will do a lot of good.
