Mulkey: It will happen for us. I just don't know when. The talent is there for us. I just don't know when we will play smoother.

Mulkey: The effort was not there. When we pull up the film Wednesday it won't be a fun session. It will be a come to Jesus moment.

Mulkey: We're not the same team we were when we won it all. I don't know that anything that went on this summer affected this team. I think Colorado affected this team.

Mulkey: This is not going to devastate us. Those things I just described to you are fixable. I don't know how long it will take to fix it. They will probably have a good practice come Wednesday.

Mulkey: You live with poor shooting and just a tough night offensively. What I don't live with is (lack of) guts and fight and physical play. That dog in you. I didn't think we had that tonight. I thought Mikaylah Williams and SaMyah Smith did have that tonight.

Only the third season-opening loss of Mulkey's career. Lost by 1 to LSU in Austin in 2004 (beat LSU in Final Four en route to NCAA title) and lost by 9 in 2009 at Tennessee (went to Final Four). Humbling loss, but not fatal by any means.

LSU Women's Basketball 16
Colorado 14
A ragged first 10 minutes for the No. 1 team, but they have the lead. HVL with a couple of big threes.

Queens University (Charlotte, NC), which LSU Women's Basketball plays Thursday in its home opener, lost 91-44 at No. 12 Ole Miss today. Sort of a measuring stick for , which opens at 6:30 p.m. CT tonight in Las Vegas vs. No. 20 Colorado.

Kelly: My expectations are what everyone's are. Our offense is ahead of our defense. We have to continue to build and coach at the highest level and we're going to continue to get there.
