Welcomed the Head of the Palestinian Mission Husam Zomlot to Manchester Town Hall today. We discussed the catastrophic situation on the ground in Gaza and what we as a City can do to help in the humanitarian efforts.

The United Nations Security Council’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza is vital and must be a turning point.

The British government must urgently apply diplomatic pressure for it to be implemented in full.

SHiFT Manchester: We’ve hit the ground running!

Last week we celebrated a partnership between SHiFT and Manchester City Council, supported by Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit. Together, we are doing whatever it takes to break the destructive cycle of children caught up in, or at risk of, crime.

Today the BBC reported serious allegations about the treatment of Palestinian medics.

International law must be upheld, not just with words but with actions.

Accountability for the actions of all parties in Gaza matters.

The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. The UK government should:

- call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire alongside the release of all hostages;
- ⁠demand Israel increase aid flows;
- ⁠do everything it can to get supplies to those in need;
- resume funding for UNWRA;

I condemn Thursday’s incident in Gaza in which more than 100 people were reportedly killed or injured while seeking life-saving aid.

The desperate civilians in Gaza need urgent help, including those in the north where the United Nations has not been able to deliver aid in more than a week.
