Since the war in Sudan started 2 months ago, close to 100,000 South Sudanese have been compelled to return to their country.

I met families transiting in Renk & Malakal, now wishing to return to their places of origin & rebuild their future.

With support, they will succeed.

Strong partnerships are the only way to effectively support South Sudanese returning from Sudan. Thankful to 🇺🇳 IOM South Sudan OCHA South Sudan  🇪🇺EU in South Sudan 🇨🇦 CanadainSouthSudan Hope Restoration South Sudan and the 🇸🇸 Government for traveling to Renk and Malakal today.

Forcibly displaced people may have contributed the least to climate change, but are among those leading the way in the fight against it.

Climate action is on all of us.

In Goma & Beni, in North Kivu, Gillian Triggs and I met displaced persons who have gone through years of repeated displacements.

They were appreciative of the generosity of their hosts & of the assistance received but were eager to see peace and return to their homes.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is the country most affected by forced displacement on the African Continent.

▪️6.2 million internally displaced people
▪️Over 500,000 refugees
▪️More than 1 million nationals in exile

Yet, only 20% of the resources needed have been mobilized.

The number of refugees arriving in Chad from Sudan has now surpassed 90,000.

I saw the exceptional solidarity demonstrated by the receiving communities despite difficult circumstances.

In just over a month since the conflict began, over 330,000 have fled Sudan.
