Consent to receive kidneys with lower expected survival is typically obtained at waitlist placement. This study shows there is variation of consent for high-KDPI kidneys & higher likelihood of transplantation linked to consent bit.ly/JASN0318

Older pt with recent worsening of renal function. Biopsy reveals cholesterol clefts in vessels consistent with atheroembolic disease. For whatever reason these lesions always seem to segregate into the IF and EM tissues. #Renalpath #nephrology #pathtwitter
Ouch. Severe acute vascular rejection (v3 lesion) with transmural inflammation and fibrinoid necrosis with chronic transplant arteriopathy (foam cells; intimal sclerosis) in this kidney txp bx. +DSAs and diffuse tubulointerstitial type ACR. #renalpath #nephrology
Pt with SLE and active urine. Bx with thin GBM lesion. Another example of value of kidney biopsy in lupus patients to avoid overtreatment. Minimal IF staining (C1q pictured for example), at most minimal LN. #renalpath #nephrology #pathtwitter
Interesting #onocnephrology #renalpath bx. Pt on long term gleevec for GIST with increasing proteinuria. Bx revealed chronic active microangiopathy and associated secondary FSGS. #nephrology #pathtwitter
