This is how the Constitution dies.

By a tie vote, the amendment to require a warrant to spy on Americans goes down in flames.

This is a sad day for America.

The Speaker doesn’t always vote in the House, but he was the tie breaker today. He voted against warrants.

Today I managed the rule (which just passed) to force Congress to vote on the record for whether a warrant is needed to spy on American citizens. Get a warrant!

Debate on the bill is happening now.

Here are the Republicans who spoke during the @rulesreps debate this morning:

🚨 This afternoon the House is likely to take a landmark vote on whether FBI must obtain a WARRANT to search for private communications of U.S. citizens in a massive electronic database compiled by spy agencies.

Do you support a warrant requirement to query citizens?

Tomorrow at 8 am, I’ll manage floor debate on the FISA 702 Reauthorization Rule, which makes in order 6 votes on amendments, including one that will require FBI to get a warrant before searching for Americans’ data.

A similar rule failed yesterday, preventing a vote on warrants.

This is encouraging news today, the fifth anniversary of Julian Assange’s imprisonment in Belmarsh.

I just spoke on the House floor to urge my colleagues to move forward with a vote on an amendment requiring warrants for FISA surveillance of Americans.

If the warrant amendment doesn't pass, we must vote no on FISA reauthorization.

If the rule resolution fails, FISA reauthorization is temporarily stopped (good).

But I’m concerned we’ll never get a standalone vote to add warrants, and Johnson will bring back warrantless FISA by suspending rules (bad).

Ps. engineer in me would switch the green and yellow:

I questioned Intel Committee Chairman Turner about special treatment Congressmen get in the proposed FISA bill.

Instead of giving a carve out to Congress from unconstitutional spying, just require a warrant for all Americans!

Get a warrant! House Rules Committee
