Not an ideal time for AD to bring this up. Did a nice job offensively, but his defensive effort from the jump vs. Nuggets in Game 1 was underwhelming. (Granted, it is a regular-season award.)

I had him on my ballot (3rd). Wanted to put him 1st in light of the load he carries w/LAL but couldn't justify it. He is, and *can* do, all the things he said. But he rarely gives you multiple efforts on the same possession. Rudy & Bam, to name two, do.

I'm not presenting a theory. EFG% doesn't = 'clutch.' That's why your hypothetical scenario is flawed from the start. Making a shot at the end of a game doesn't make it 'clutch.' Context (time, score, etc.) matters. Is the winning shot vs. losing shot *more* clutch? Yes.

So in your universe, clutch has nothing to do w/winning. A good FG%, end of game = clutch. Down 3, don't shoot a 3 if you can get a layup because, you know, you'll lose but better odds your EFG% will stay crisp. Or get someone else to take that 3. So you remain 'clutch.' Got it.

Now we're grading on a curve because of age/injury. I've never said JT can't become clutch or he hasn't been clutch. He has been. What I've said is I don't trust him -- and therefore the Cs -- because he also has a track record of being passive in clutch situations.

I’m not suggesting the eye test alone is fool-proof. I’m refuting the idea that a stat w/arbitrary parameters that doesn’t account for critical variables has any meaning, much less is *superior* to observation.

EFG% in the last 5 min w/in 5 pts is an arbitrary definition of “clutch.” Did you win or lose? Were you ahead or behind? Most important, did you look to score or, because you weren’t having a good game, you looked to someone else to get the job done, thereby preserving your EFG%

Proof that you can manipulate numbers to say anything. No one who actually watches games & weighs results would say Klay has been the second-most clutch shooter over the last three years. Nor would they say JT is the *most* clutch over that time. If he was, Cs would have a ring.

Can’t say enough about the growth of Coby White — there isn’t any aspect of his game that hasn’t improved two-fold. Unlocking it all is his decision-making. Early simple passes, trades good shots for great ones. So much fun to see a young buck blossom.
