iPhone : I've just voted for a Motion to outlaw "fire and rehire" practices that leave workers on worse pay and conditions.

The Tories couldn’t stomach supporting it.

The truth is they want to use this crisis and mass unemployment to drive back workers rights and deliver Thatcherism 2.0

iPhone : I offered the Business Secretary the opportunity to distance himself from the scandalous comments hes made in recent years about workers & his plans to rip up their rights.

Sadly he didnt take up the offer & wouldnt commit to outlawing the immoral practice of fire & rehire.

iPhone : Labour is fighting to protect:

πŸ’· Holiday pay
⏰ The 48 hour working week
πŸ›Œ The right to rest breaks at work

The Governments response to that is to consider longer working hours and less pay.

Twitter Web App : New data today shows people in some of the lowest-paid, manual jobs are THREE TIMES more likely to die of Covid than those in higher-paid so-called "professional" jobs.

We can't go on like this.

All non-essential workers who can't work from home must be furloughed on full pay.

iPhone : Don't make the mistake of previous Tory administrations of refusing to engage with trade unions in your 'review' of workers' rights.

My letter to Kwasi Kwarteng today πŸ‘‡πŸ½…

Twitter Web App : Right-wing Tory MPs are again pretending to care about children's welfare as they call for plans for school reopenings

That'll be MPs from the Tory Party that:

- forced 500,000+ more children into poverty
- axed the EMA
- closed 100s of youth centres
- imposed Β£9,000 uni fees

Twitter Web App : The Government keeps repeating the same errors

This goes beyond incompetence. It's because it puts the interests of profit before people.

It needs to lockdown until the virus is at low levels. Fund people to stay at home. And fix Test & Trace for when it's safe to end lockdown.…

Twitter Web App : Tens of thousands of lives would have been saved if the British Government had followed a Zero Covid policy.

It's not too late for it to do so. It would save lives and help to safely return our society to something like normality

My article on #ZeroCovid…

Twitter Web App : Delighted at the success of the online launch event for ZeroCovidNow earlier today.
A thank you to all the great speakers, the organising team and of course to all of you who attended.
This campaign is absolutely vital and we will build on it, with your help.

Android : The Government’s Covid strategy isn’t working.

We currently have the highest death rate in the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Today at 12 noon I'll be speaking at the launch of the Zero Covid Coalition.

Join us to discuss a new way forward.…

Android : This government can't even keep workers in its own agencies safe.

There's a simple solution.

These workers should be allowed to work from home. Those that can't should be furloughed on full pay.…

Android : How should the left respond to the current crisis?

I’ll be joining socialist MPs, trade unionists & activists at this event later today.

Android : A proper lockdown requires proper financial support.

Too many people can’t afford to β€˜stay at home’ or are being denied furlough.

I have coordinated this call from MPs for all non-essential workers who can’t work from home to be furloughed on full pay.…

Android : One year ago today Matt Hancock gave his first parliamentary statement on Covid.

He claimed then "the UK is always well-prepared for these types of outbreaks".

100,000 deaths later, we know just how wrong that claim was.

And the government still refuses to do what's needed.

Android : Boris Johnson just did another press conference warning of even greater dangers of the virus.

But he didn't offer a single penny more in financial support.

Many can't afford to self-isolate when ill. Many can't afford to stay at home during lockdown.

It's just not serious.

Twitter Web App : If the virus is allowed to continue to run out of control, not only will millions more people be infected, but the virus could mutate again and again.

That's why the Government needs to adopt a Zero Covid strategy, as other countries have done, to drive virus levels right down.

iPhone : Massive team team effort. 13 laptops refurbed to go out to kids for school πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ’»πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ’»πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ’»πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ’»
