On a much more positive note, Benson Waterfront Café had my favourite cake & despite the red boards going up again at Benson Lock that morning, the ferry across the river was running. Tomorrow it resumes 7 days a week operation

Got carried away yesterday testing the #ThamesPath between Abingdon & Goring - 52000 steps! Quite a lot of slippery mud. Much swearing but I managed to stay upright. Cholsey Marsh in particular was vile. 100 miles of path now covered this year & not even started my challenge 🤣

👼 I found this exquisite little object on the Thames foreshore during fieldwork. I think it’s a medieval or early post-medieval strap-end, decorated with a winged angel blowing a trumpet.

If my dating is correct, it’s one of my best finds and will be reported to Museum of London
