I don’t think I’ll ever understand why drivers speed up when you’re attempting a turn in front of them. Scary if you’re also driving, but absolutely terrifying if you’re on a bicycle. My best explanation is that operating a car forces competition and fosters aggression.

It feels so nice to finally be in a place where I can focus my energy on my book. This proposal will be done by the end of the summer, if I have my way.

Dr. Robin Mazumder Thank you for sharing this — I need to listen to it. I have a love/hate relationship with cities, and can only cope if I live near a large park!

Dr. Robin Mazumder I caught this CBC Ideas episode as I was driving home after a 65 km bike ride through New West, Burnaby, Vancouver and back. Your research summarized and solidified things I’ve been intuiting on bike rides for years. Thank you! Going down the rabbit hole tomorrow.

'Road width, street and building design, noise and pollution...the physical design of cities can cause stress...environments are physical and social.
And the intersection of those two is what I try to study using science.'

So many stories of micromanaging PIs and toxic academic supervisors filtered in at a recent national symposium.
Heartbreaking given the power structures at place in academia.

If in medicine, it is 'doctor, heal thyself', in science it is 'PI, build thyself'.

“A proliferation of short-term contracts, low salaries (particularly for early-career researchers), competitive working environments and pressure to publish are all contributors — but so are bullying, discrimination and harassment.” nature.com/articles/d4158…

ICYMI, I recently co-authored an editorial in British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM) with the legendary Rachel Aldred on using an intersectional lens for active transportation. Very honoured to be in such an esteemed journal discussing critical issues in urbanism.
