I had the honor of seeing the Columbia University anti-war encampment firsthand.

Contrary to right-wing attacks, these students are joyfully protesting for peace and an end to the genocide taking place in Gaza.

I’m in awe of their bravery and courage.

the actual encampment at Columbia—i'm here after teaching my final class of the semester—is downright tranquil, impossibly sweet. there is a 'nut zone' for the safety of kids with allergies.

While this seems like a good thing, it is not

If an armed squad can round up citizens and lock them in cages without enforcing an actual law, then they are NOT “law enforcement officers”

Students of color were terrified, many afraid to leave campus today. Many reports of physical aggression and keffiyehs being pulled off. Columbia had NYPD arrest 100+ of their own students for peaceful protesting but can’t handle this? Interesting.

When masked paramilitary police starts to arrest eminent university professors on campus ground for defending positions like 'thou shalt not mass murder children', maybe you should start questioning a thing or two about what your society has become...

According to colleagues, IU faculty arrested at the Palestine solidarity encampment are slapped w 1yr bans from campus. I have seen many examples of police brutality agst campus protests over the yrs- inc student bans - but I have never heard of faculty targeted this way before
