I’ll always be proud of what Niskanen Center (the unnamed Washington think tank in the piece) did to make this superhero origin story possible

A souvenir of my trip to Berlin! It's always humbling to talk with brilliant Europeans like Alexander Isele and Mira Groh whose knowledge of US politics exceeds that of most Americans... and let's not even raise the question of how closely most Americans follow European politics...

This thread's author is a very smart guy, and I agree with much of his argument. But I think university leaders are less neoliberals than controversy-avoidant status quo standpats, and faculties *do* reject conservative scholars *and* marginalize their preferred fields of study

It's humbling, honestly, that I've been given the opportunity to talk with some of the planet's smartest people. I'm grateful to Sir Angus Deaton for this podcast discussion about his new book, Economics in America, and his research on 'deaths of despair'

I've got a new Substack up with the transcript of a great discussion I had with my friend Aurelian Craiutu, who IMO has done the best job of defining and defending moderation -- and who has a terrific new book making the case for a general audience

I'm a big proponent of 'civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done' -- but I think it's still something of an open question if Kyrsten Sinema was the best representative of those values

It was an honor to be among the contributors asked by POLITICO to weigh in on Mitch McConnell’s historical significance. He’s in many ways a contradictory figure with a mixed legacy, as I think our collective assessment shows.

So moved by the images from Moscow today. Always worth remembering that Russia produces tyrants but also saints, martyrs, and ordinary yet courageous people

Really enjoyed talking with Greg Sargent about the historical antecedents to Trump’s Art of the Steal. Give Greg’s new podcast a listen!

I’m pretty sure this piece was already written in the 18th century as advice for indentured servants

I love the Next Level folks, but if they want to know what an informed center-right take on higher ed sounds like they should invite Charlie Sykes on the podcast

A book-review zinger to remember by Edward Kosner: 'Sentences plod across the pages like dun-clad prisoners, eyes downcast.'
