A nice-sized eruption from the back of the Sun yesterday! Unfortunately, there are currently data gaps from the SOHO telescope, so we can’t see the appearance of these further out in the corona. (Data: SUVI)

Here’s the entirety of April on the Sun, in white light, emitted by the layer of the Sun’s surface visible to us. You can see sunspot numbers accelerate from near zero, to very busy at the end of the month! (data: SDO)

A month on the Sun, April 2024. In this movie of the Sun’s UV atmosphere, you can really see solar activity starting off slow, but accelerating later in the month. So far, May is looking even more active!

It's been a very busy 12 hours on the Sun, with two X-class solar flares, and three further high M-class events! These are all primarily from the same active region, AR 13663.
