#OnThisDay in 1913, HMS E1, the first of the E-Class submarines was commissioned into the Royal Navy.
The class was made up of 58 submarines and spilt into three groups. Group one and two were started before World War I and were replaced in due course by the L-Clas

The Royal Navy sixth Astute Class attack submarine has been formally named.
Agamemnon was named in a traditional ceremony at @BAESystemsMaritime shipyard in Barrow-In-Furness.
The first working submarine was a leather-covered rowboat invented by Cornelis Drebbel in 1620.
Drebbel went on to build two more, with the final one managing to reach depths of 15 feet.

On this day in 1963 HMS Dreadnought – the UK’s first nuclear-powered submarine was commissioned into the Royal Navy 🇬🇧.
She was powered by a pressurised water reactor which enabled her to remain submerged for long periods.

On this day in 1903 HMS A2, the second of the A-Class submarine class was launched.
The A-class was the Royal Navy’s first class of British-designed submarines and the first class to have a bridge fin.

In the early 1960s the US Navy started working with bottlenose dolphins and Californian sea lions to help with mine detection 🐬.
Dolphins are known for being intelligent, sociable mammals and can reach speeds of more than 18 miles an hour.
