Today's resignation of Annastacia Palaszczuk leaves only one Australian govt leader in place from the time of the worst of Covid19. A reminder of the toll it takes to be in leadership, particularly at times of crisis (no shortage of them), & the importance of mentoring one's successors.

Another run of shifts providing emergency medical
care. Demand is relentless. The impact on talented, altruistic health workers is worrying.
While it won't make a shortterm difference, I take some comfort in this national agreement. The right priorities.

Feeling the loss of too many friends my age lately.
A reminder that none of us have a guarantee of old age, or even tomorrow.
Sometimes it feels like only bastards live forever. Either that, or the knowledge of one's mortality brings out the best in people.
Carpe Diem.

An absolute must watch.
When the doctor becomes the patient.
Professor Richard Scolyer AO & colleagues using their expertise to deal with his illness, find hope & extend immunotherapy.
For >200 years, we've used the immune response to fight infectious diseases. Now we do so to fight cancers.

As the bleeding resumes, we seem to be experiencing the impact of trauma at so many levels. As Laura Tingle rightly puts it, nuance is dead. That there are those who seek to exploit such suffering for personal & political gain is nothing new - but it is no less terrible to witness.

Congratulations on an incredible career in radio, Neil Mitchell . I was a first year medical student when you started on air, it was that long ago.
You never stopped caring, & have integrity in spades.
Go well.

The Australian Parliament will be a poorer place for the departure of Patrick Dodson. For decades, he has met racism, ignorance & hostility with dignity & forbearance. It is now for others to build on the process he has progressed. Deep respect for .

I suspect that if all the people cared for by Gerard Dowling over his long life gathered together, the MCG might just be big enough. A 50 year run on Melbourne radio, listening with kindness to the grief of many was just one example. Rest in peace, Gerard.

I leave grateful to reconnect with many colleagues. I reflect on our work under duress. The relegation of the most important topic to the sidelines is a matter of regret. Respectful, ethical practice can be subject to threat, subtle or overt.

Natalie's statement speaks volumes for the calibre of an emergency physician whose courage & ethics speak for themselves.
At focused on 'Action Under Pressure', she demonstrates the integrity under duress we should all aspire to.
Colleagues, watch & learn from her.

In Canberra for . Rightly devoted to working under enormous pressure, a shadow hangs over the program if this late cancellation of a keynote proceeds.
Emergency physicians are capable of confronting complex, devastating issues with care & diligence. If not us, then whom?

Yotam Ottolenghi's words.
They express the deepest desire of so many of us.
I can only echo his call for all to really and understand the suffering of others.
