Quite good: cook, reader, procrastinator. Decent: mom, writer, teacher. Terribly bad: athlete, winker, cat trainer. RTs are jokes I wish I'd made first.

RIP Faith Ringgold, a dauntless and astonishingly inventive artist, activist, author, illustrator, sculptor, and children’s-book legend. The great ideas just kept coming. She was one of the signal cultural figures of our times.

Rereading Deidre Lynch’s great collection Janeites and struck by a sentence including both “cringe” and “decolonization” written in 2000. (I know these words are not recently coined, but I did a double-take!)

I wasn't a huge fan (not for any good reason), so this isn't personal, but: has anyone written about the outdated/cringe Venn diagram? I would assume that outdated was necessarily cringey, but the rhetoric here suggests otherwise. (Yes, I'm overanalyzing an Independent headline.)

Say what you want about social media, but my elementary school art teacher (who started that job out of college my Kindergarten year) follows me on Instagram and comments on my kids’ art, and it’s about as moving a thing as I experience these days.

Important research! But I’ll say: I’ve always said Evel-eye-na to follow c18 Sophia and Maria, etc. Does that count as evidence?

Will confess that I did my usual control+F “CUNY.” We got one! (She’s very fancy and has a central line GC appt, which is arguably a better gig than at Ivys.) But congrats to a lot of very smart and cool people. I just wish there were more fellowships in general.

In our season premiere, writer Anne Enright kindly makes time for Irish lit maven Paige Reynolds and host John Plotz. She reads from “The Wren, The Wren” and discusses the “etherized” state of our inner lives as they circulate on social media. Listen now! tinyurl.com/2bu89nww

So glad I caught Marketplace with Alice Randall, who talked about the indebtedness of country music to metaphysical poetry, Shakespeare, Austen, sharing her experience as a Black country singer and songwriter. And I didn't just imagine Fancy used as interstitial music! So good.
