We love a classic settler institution move of “progress”. Commemorate “past” harm while perpetuating it in the present. Wicked.

When I served on UofT’s committee to address how to rename places/things at the university that are implicated in, among other things, genocidal violence, I thought an obvious pre-condition to that work was divesting the institution from such harms. Obviously not.

On Friday of the long weekend, the crown quietly dropped all charges against four of the so-called Indigo 11 because there was no reasonable prospect of conviction. I spoke to one of them and a lawyer for the other who plan to address the public today.
