Israel has attacked Iran. Iran had promised to retaliate with all their might if Israel strikes. Yet their first response has been to deny that Israel has conducted a strike--which tells us all we need to know about their response.

For a moment there, Dubai expat conventional wisdom, such as it is--'must have been cloud seeding!'--turned into a matter of fact in some reports. Good to see more point out that cloud seeding isn't even known to be very effective, let alone capable of causing storms.

Iran: we're going to attack you with plenty of notice
Israel: we'll respond and you can pretend you didn't notice

Middle Eastern neighbours will also hope that the threat of war between Israel and Iran will recede, and it may buy Netanyahu some good will from the US to focus on his main front, which is attacking Hamas in Gaza.

This might be the first time in history a country deescalates a war by conducting a strike on another country in a way that allows everyone to shrug it off.
