Lovely that Sheffield has been named the UK’s greenest city, but let’s give credit where it’s due. We had a very generous benefactor; business man, councillor and Lord Mayor, John George Graves. He gave Sheffield…

This is a 200+ year old veteran beech tree in Huddersfield. It is due for the chop. We must stop this mindless destruction.

Please sign and share our petition.

Thank heavens we're promised an inquiry into the tree campaign where everything that went wrong will be laid bare...especially now that the council have adopted this refreshing policy of transparency.
Sarcastic?
Moi?

It is difficult to express how I feel about this development. We joined the campaign when others thought the campaigners were 'over zealous loony lefties'. Chris has spent hours reading, understanding, writing. Trying to fight for a just cause, in the face of toxic politics.

Alison Teal 🍃💚🍃 Timewalk Project Deepa Shetty 🇬🇧 🇪🇺 @DenzpDp Dave Dillner Calvin Payne Louise Wilcockson Paul Powlesland Will they have to give evidence whether they want to or not?

Will it be under oath/affirmation?

If not, what can it possibly achieve? How will they convince us of their veracity, given their track record?

Perhaps the most egregious use of the word 'independent' in the whole campaign.
Remember this when an 'Independent Local Inquiry' is mooted.

The new executive haven't even TRIED to get a proper independent inquiry.

Yes of course they cost money but don't rule out before even exploring options.

Labour totally off the hook & the people of Sheffield totally sold out!

Meet the 'new politics' same as the old politics

Deepa Shetty 🇬🇧 🇪🇺 #PowertothePeaceful #3.5% NHSBlueHeart @DenzpDp Alison Teal 🍃💚🍃 Dave Dillner Calvin Payne Louise Wilcockson Paul Powlesland I think most people woke up when Rustlings Road happened. No way anyone can justify dragging old ladies out of bed in the middle of the night. To chop down a healthy tree! Was like we were living in an Authoritarian State.

So what is a 'local inquiry?'

Who sets it up ?
Who's in charge ?
Who decides the terms / scope?
Who gets called to give evidence?
How will we know its recommendations will be taken seriously ?
How will impartiality be ensured?

Sheffield deserves better than a whitewash

This is as close as I am allowed to Sheffield Full Council today.

I don't object to self-isolating as required.

But if we lose any votes by 1, that will be because the government has refused to allow hybrid or virtual meetings. This is unfair to the people who elected me.

At this week's council meeting the new administration spells out it's priorities. At the bottom there is a pledge to hold a 'local inquiry' into the tree felling saga. I don't know what a local inquiry is. I fully support the Opposition motion calling for a public inquiry.

I was given this oak tree in 2019 as a seedling, grown from an acorn saved from a 150yo oak that was unnecessarily destroyed amid the mass council fellings of street trees in Sheffield.
The seedling’s now a thriving sapling & the protestors helped halt the fellings.
Green growth.

Here's the May '16 cutting I took of the Chelsea Road elm tree. It was 4 inches tall then. 5 years later, its now around 96 inches tall. Younger elms find it harder to fight off DED than large mature elms. So there's every chance it will be killed in the next 5 years.... (1 of 2)
