I’m heartbroken to learn Rev Cecil Williams of GLIDE Church has passed. I knew Cecil for many years & was continually in awe of his wisdom & commitment to justice.

Cecil played a key role in creating the Glide community — a beautiful, welcoming place

The right to protest is a bedrock value in this country.

But some of the rhetoric and harassment coming out of the demonstrations at Columbia right now is truly vile. It is unacceptable that so many Jewish students on campus feel unsafe. This can’t continue.

It makes me wonder how the fallout from USC’s decision will impact its valedictorian selection later on. I’ve personally seen cases where because of these types of incidents, Muslim & Arab candidates are passed over in future years because “they’re not worth the trouble.”

In response to “horrific” scenes of antisemitic harassment at and around campus, the Orthodox Rabbi at Columbia/Barnard sent a WhatsApp message to more than 290+ Jewish students this morning recommending that they go home until it’s safe again for them on campus:

MAGA extremists spent 6 months obstructing aid to Ukraine. During that period, Ukraine’s momentum faded.

But that was the whole point.

These extremists are fully on Team Putin. They want him to conquer a European democracy, just as they’re working to undermine democracy here.
