Researchers looked at more than a century of ocean temp data collected by ShoreStation100 @ Scripps Pier, as well as data obtained by satellites & gliders. They found that the frequency & duration of marine heatwaves have become more pronounced in recent years due to climate change.

In a companion study, scientists present a new method for minimizing historical biases, adjusting the 100+ year time series for time-of-day samples were collected. This method was used in heatwave study & has major implications for future research. More: scripps.ucsd.edu/news/scientist…
