A new study by Scripps scientists identifies #ClimateChange as a major contributor to a record-breaking marine #heatwave . The 2018 heat event occurred in waters off Southern California, peaking at 79.5°F, the highest sea-surface temp recorded in La Jolla. scripps.ucsd.edu/news/scientist…
Researchers looked at more than a century of ocean temp data collected by ShoreStation100 @ Scripps Pier, as well as data obtained by satellites & gliders. They found that the frequency & duration of marine heatwaves have become more pronounced in recent years due to climate change.
