Frank Caws's first work in #Sunderland was the Pottery Building in High Street East (1868). Built by the Backhouse family as an East-End community centre, it was named after a pottery that once occupied the site. The ornamental Gothic design anticipated Caws's Elephant Tea House.

I was very happy to be back in Hull today for the ceremonial first drop of the restored time ball on the Guildhall. It looked fabulous as it glided down. Well done to everyone Historic England, Hull City Council and The National Lottery.

The lockdown cocoa plant from York Cocoa House survives! Grown from seed since March 2020, its stem is now about 35cm tall and its next pair of leaves are getting ready to come.
