Important note for when you hear pundits cyclically and cynically calling for reestablishing deterrence against Iran. Iran, like many other states, will respond in kind. Violence begets violence.

This is why Iran’s attempt to calibrate the response was always a high-risk gambit with Israel. Israeli/Netanyahu’s motivation is centered on diversion and political protection, not deescalation.
