And he won in Mitch McConnell’s backyard - one of the whitest, poorest, and most rural states in the country. I don’t want to hear that the only way we can win white working class voters is to run to the middle, to stop talking about race, to be quiet about trans kids.

He vetoed anti-trans legislation, calling trans kids “children of God.” He ran unapologetically on a woman's right to choose. He defended schools being able to reach accurate history, again vetoing anti CRT-legislation.

In some ways, Governor Andy Beshear is a middle of the road Dem. But he also took the right position on a number of issues that most state-wide white Democratic candidates don’t touch: race and education, abortion and trans rights.

In 2019, Andy Beshear only secured 44.86% of the vote in Letcher County. He's up 5+ this year. SURJ
reached just shy of 15k voters in Letcher by phone and by door knock. What we heard in the former coal mining county time and time again: Beshear shows up when it counts.
