So much of what we love doesn’t exist without Rico Wade.

In a city built on movement legacy, Rico Wade was the epitome of an Atlanta organizer. He activated a community and put folk in position to win for generations. Only a cat that cool could organize the sound soul + swag of Atlanta into something the world couldn’t deny. Godfather.

As a journalist covering Atlanta hip-hop, I appreciated how often Rico Wade made himself available to talk Organized Noize and how their legacy continues.

The other problem at least with many magazines these days is that the editorial photoshoots tend to matter/prioritized more than the actual interview accompanying it. We see it in only crediting the shoot & ignoring the writer’s work, for example.

I got addicted to reading these kinds of interviews while doing the Joni book. I know I write cultural criticism more often myself but musicians are musicians, they have a lot to say about MUSIC!

I would really love to read a Beyoncé interview where she talks about her musical process in detail. We’re taking a lot about the “why” but I really want to know the “how,” from her. She clearly is a master in the studio, swish she would share the wisdom
