We echo Lord (Tariq)Ahmad of Wimbledon - CCHQ and Number 10 have a duty to discipline and reprimand MPs when their comments are clearly designed to inflame.

TRG has always fought against such comments across all levels of the party, MPs are not exempt from disciplinary procedures

I’ve called out Islamic extremism (& been attacked by hard left, far right & Islamists).
I don’t for one moment believe that Sadiq Khan is controlled by Islamists. To say so, is both foolish and dangerous.

Wrong-headed comments which inflame the situation and then make it much more difficult to speak sensibly about these important divisions. Just as important to call out people from my own party. If it's wrong, it's wrong. Language matters.

As a Londoner and a Conservative who stood in London in 2019 and someone married to a Muslim, it’s hard to convey how hurtful and offensive these comments are at a time when Islamophobia is already on the rise.
