This was a fun blog to write - a trip down memory lane on my path to become a marine biologist, which took me from studying freshwater mussels in Sydney to teaching tilapia aquaculture in rural Gabon to following the mud to the Great Barrier Reef and ultimately to WCS in Fiji

Mass coral bleaching unfolding at Lizard Island, northern Great Barrier Reef (March 2024). These events have become “normalised” to the point where it’s easy to forget that 20 yrs ago this would have been an unprecedented and isolated event.
