Really lovely gardening day - it was dry & sunny! Brilliant time sowing, hoeing, picking, planting, potting on, cutting hazel sticks for peas & beans, pricking out & getting washing dry. Hope the sun remembers to shine again tomorrow ☀️

Wild wet windy night that kept me awake for hours. The garden is saturated & still it rains. Local farmer said: “just mud every day, it’s a disaster”

The homestead is a significant part of my work & it’s getting really worrying now.

Please can we have some dry sunny weather?

Today’s baking invention: chocolate chip & stem ginger rhubarb crumble muffins. So good I’ve already eaten two.

No recipe, so I’ll have to make them again to write down quantities

Also transformed a large bunch of over ripe bananas into wine, now in a demijohn to ferment

First two asparagus spears harvested today in my polytunnel - the first since I moved to the homestead 3 years ago. There’s also an outdoor asparagus bed, but it was recommended to me that an undercover one was a good plan too on a wild Welsh hillside!

Just about finished sorting & tidying half of the little barn here at the homestead. This side is mostly potting & planting. The other side will be mostly the outdoor kitchen & crafts equipment.

It's good to have a sheltered place to work as it isn't half raining a lot.....

Three years ago today I made the first no dig bed here at my new homestead.

Today I welcomed 8 people here on a gardening course - and it mostly didn’t rain!

Mulching the polytunnel is a satisfying job, but I did rather resemble a swamp being afterwards!!

The annual mulch feeds the plants for a year. Compost is of course all peat free
