OTD in 1977 Jiri Stancl won Round B of the Continental Qualifying Rounds of the World Championship in Wiener Neustadt Austria. Jiri scored 14 points to finish ahead of the Austrian Siegfried Eder with 12 & a certain Jerzy Szczakiel who scored 10.

OTD in 1977 Bernt Persson won the 3rd Swedish Qualifying Round of the World Championship in Vastervik. Bernie scored 14 points & was joined on the podium by Soren Sjosten & Tommy Johansson. Also going through to the next stage, were Tommy Nilsson & Ake Fridell.

England v USA in 1980, what a Test Series this was, it had everything. Great racing, controversy, Team riding @ it's best & all played out in front of huge crowds. I Count myself very lucky to have seen a couple of these sensational meetings.

OTD in 1977 Hasse Holmqvist won the 2nd Swedish Qualifying Round of the World Championship @ Motala. Hasse scored 14 points, joining him on the podium were Rikard Hellsen with 13 & Christer Sjosten 12. Also qualifying for the next stage were Bengt Jansson & Borje
Klingberg.

Some National League from 1977 with Oxford's Martin Yeates leading Colin Farquharson of Stoke. Never saw a lot of racing @ this level but did go to Oxford fairly regular as it was just up the road from Swindon & the meetings were always enjoyable.

OTD in 1977 Soren Karlsson won the first Swedish Qualifying Round of the World Championship @ Avesta. Soren scored a 15 point maximum to finish ahead of Jan Andersson on 14 & Jan Simenson who finished with 13. Karl-Eric Claesson & Eddie Davidsson also qualified for the next stage

Team Managers Barry Briggs & John Berry with their respective captains Ivan Mauger & John Louis prior to 1st England v Rest of the World Test @ White City in 1977. John top scored for England with 13 points in their 63-45 victory while Michael Lee won the man of the match award.

Mike Keen & Barry Duke lead Malcolm Brown in heat 2 of the Robins BL match @ Leicester OTD in 1970. Bob Kilby, who always rode well @ Blackbird Road scored a maximum (including the fastest time of the night, in heat 12 when beating Ray Wilson) was the star in Swindon's 40-38 win.

OTD in 1977 White City's Steve Weatherley won the National League Preliminary Round of the World Championship @ Newport's Somerton Park. Steve scored 14 points, dropping his only point to Barney Kennett who was runner-up on 13 with Steve Lomas third, finishing with 12.

In 1975, Hull's second season of racing in the British League they improved slightly, finishing 14th, up from 16th the previous season. In the KO Cup they went out in the 2nd round to Swindon, losing 79-77 on aggregate. Jimmy McMillan again finished top of the Vikings averages.

Remembering Malcolm Holloway who passed away OTD in 2012. Watched the 'Mad Welli' from his first rides in the 2nd halfs @ Swindon, always an entertaining 4 laps (or less) to become a rider capable of beating the best. One of the most likable chaps in the sport. R.I.P. Malcolm.

Remembering Tony Clarke who passed away OTD in 2014. Tony started his career with West Ham in 1965 & went on to ride for a number of clubs including, Oxford, Wembley, Newport, Wimbledon & Wolverhampton. Was implicated in a 'story' about missing Russian bikes🤔 R.I.P. Tony
