When we enter the final 3rd, we are set for transition while being able to retain and attack multiple times

Here's what the second phase of the activity might look like

So now we have the goals as the defensive reference point when we have the ball, players are able to assess distances and angles without being told how or what to do.

They are aware of what each reference point is to defend after a turnover

For me, defend with the ball

In the game, we have the base behind the ball set after breaking the press entering the penalty box

We have pushed the back line as high as possible as the ball travels at speed.
Both FBs in transition positions before a turnover while being able to facilitate possession

When the ball is lost, we can apply immediate pressure near the ball while controlling the opponent and space away from the ball.

We are ready to make contact on each pass after the counterpress.

The practice outcome should be visible in play, but some ideas take time

We build up under pressure using the GK if needed, to advance into the attacking phase ahead of the small goals used as part of the zone

Once the press is broken we are immediately organising behind the ball to counterpress using the narrow FBs
