I wonder if HM Treasury could tell us what the expected impact of these measures on economic growth in each of the coming 5 years will be. I'm sure they wouldn't have announced these changes without estimating the size of the economic hit, so what is it?

The message from today's migration policy announcement is clear: don't marry a foreigner if you're on less than a few grand above the median wage (which is currently about £3500 less than this minimum requirement). Or do marry them, but then go find another country to live in.

A telling Freudian slip when, in his Commons statement on new restrictions on immigration just now, Home Secretary James Cleverly referred to immigrants' 'defendants' rather than their 'dependants'.

I can't describe what a privilege it was to know Glenys. She was so passionate about Labour, so warm & generous, and so so much fun to spend time with. A wonderful, special woman.

Today is . The campaign for a step-change in how we treat those with disabilities has far to go. So this is a small thank you to Ian Birrell, who writes so powerfully about his own family’s experience, challenging us to do more & be better.

I’m sadder than words can say. Alistair Darling was a great man, but never expected to be treated as one. A man who always felt the weight of the huge decisions that public service involves, but was still able to take them - even in the darkest of economic times

We were all lucky to have Alistair Darling running the Treasury during the 2008 Crash. He was a wise, calm & clever politician, an extremely funny & generous man, & a frequent source of perspective & reassurance to junior people like me when times got tough. A terrible loss.

Deeply worrying thread from Children's Commissioner for England, not only in terms of what it reveals about the scale of the vulnerability of unaccompanied children seeking asylum, but also in terms of what it reveals about the Home Office not having basic information about the children they care for

Time for the nightly 'How in God's name could VAR give that? ' moment on social media. Tonight it was Newcastle's turn to get robbed.

How depressing to see British foreign policy dissolve into set-piece diplomatic snubs in the name of some diminished idea of what makes Britain great.

Some Ukrainian friends of mine from Kharkiv continue to produce excellent new music with their band La Horsa Bianca, despite their members now being in different countries

'Psych art rock', a splash of Zappa, jazz & prog sensibility, & even some theremin

Terry Venables was, for me, the personification of the joy that football can bring. The kind that you remember feeling as a 10 year old and keeps you a fan forever.
