I-81 North is closed at the I-481 exchange due to a tractor trailer rollover.

Traffic is currently being diverted onto I-481 North. Drivers should expect delays, and avoid the area if possible.

Syracuse Police located Mr. Hughes around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23rd, in the 1900 block of Burnet Avenue. Unfortunately, he was found deceased.

The investigation into his death is active and ongoing. Right now, the death does not appear criminal in nature.

After over 12 hours of communication, a suspect has been arrested. This is still an active scene but residents no longer have to shelter in place. Thank you for your cooperation throughout this matter.

More details will be released as the investigation progresses.

There will be a media staging area in the parking lot of Brooklyn Pickle, located at 2222 Burnet Avenue.

There is a very active police response in the area of Caleb Avenue and Nichols Avenue. Residents within several blocks of this area are asked to shelter in place. Other residents should avoid this area.

TWO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY:

There will be a media briefing regarding a shooting with injuries incident involving law enforcement officers at Sarah Lougen Street and Harrison Street at 12:40 a.m.

The Red Cross will be installing free smoke alarms at homes in the City of Syracuse on Saturday, May 4th. Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death from home fires in half.

We will be hosting a number of training sessions to help those thinking of taking the Police Agility Test.

Traffic is moving slowly on I-81 Southbound from exit 22, Hiawatha Boulevard, to exit 17, Brighton Avenue.
