He's been a great friend and incredible inspiration for me throughout my career. I will miss him enormously.

For context, doubling the combined budgets of Science Foundation Ireland & IrishResearchCouncil would cost about an extra €240 million per year.

Not only can we afford this, but the direct and indirect benefits of the investment would be non-linear.

A reminder of where Ireland 🇮🇪 ranks in Europe 🇪🇺 on research.

The state has a growing surplus of billions & outstanding scientists.

Yet we are below EU average. Doubling the Science Foundation Ireland budget would put us ahead. Tripling it would put us in front.
