Super stoked to see this paper led by Lewis Alcott out today! We've made a model for global C, O and P cycles over Earth history and it does a fair job of matching combined proxies. The key driver for oxygen rise is the build up of crustal carbon.

strange volcanos called kimberlites are the only way diamonds reach the surface from Earth's depths. scientists have always struggled to understand why they switched off millions of years ago...but perhaps they didn't 🌋 by Dr Robin George Andrews 🌋☄️ newscientist.com/article/mg2613…
NEW: The only reason we have diamonds is because ancient supersonic eruptions brought them to the surface.
But these volcanoes went extinct—or, just maybe, they haven’t. It’s possible these diamantine eruptions are making a comeback.

Our comment features on the cover of January's issue of Nature Reviews Earth & Environment 🌈 ! The image was generated by Thea Hincks while plotting GPlates plate tectonics reconstructions for Matt Russo's sonification.
Listen to the song of breaking continents and kimberlite eruptions in this entrancing animation!
In a new Comment, Prof Tom Gernon et al. discuss how using sound to convey complex data patterns can improve science communication🎶
