Indian Coast Guard ship Rani Durgavati on patrol in Palk Strait apprehended a fishing boat B GOBIGA carrying 49 kg banned Sea Cucumber about 15 miles from TN coast. Sea Cucumber is an endangered species & its hunting is prohibited under Schedule I of #WildlifeProtection Act 1972.

#Turtle smuggling is reportedly on rise along West Bengal, Odisha & Andhra Pradesh, with Visakhapatnam becoming a safe route for transport. E.g., in March, DRI seized 396 protected turtles at Visakhapatnam railway station.
