I was only told this *after* I enrolled as a PhD student -- if I'd known I very likely would have decided to do my PhD elsewhere. Imagine not being able to be part of your own department -- I know very few of my peers and miss out on mentorship, collaboration opportunities, etc.

And yes, I mean *barred* from accessing the department -- there are lifts. They are working and safe. We are not allowed to use them because UCL cannot be bothered to create a fire evac plan for us without fire lifts (which yes, is illegal, I believe).

I wonder if they noted in their application that mobility-disabled people are barred from accessing the department.

Today an official medical provider for my uni told me they cannot provide wheelchair access.

I asked “Then what is your reasonable adjustment to ensure disabled students have equal access to care?”

Behold: their reply comes, & they now suddenly have wheelchair access! Magic 😒

A while back I asked the TOC I use most what their procedure is if a train with a wheelchair user on unexpectedly terminates at an inaccessible station. Apparently the wheelchair user has to wait on the platform until services resume. Based on recent incidents this could be hours
