I can’t tweet through all the depressing media news. I have nothing useful to say. But it is all so frustrating to see.

I want to join the chorus of people saying thank you to the staff of DCist, past and present. You've informed and delighted us. I am so sorry.

The media industry faces real, incredibly difficult headwinds. But that's not the crux of this story. This is a case of atrocious leadership -- a truly extraordinary lack of knowledge, savvy, and strategy that can't be overstated and clearly isn't changing any time soon.

I have WAMU on much of the day. I donate, well above the minimum, monthly. What is so damn hard about doing basic DC news and running the most listened to channel in the nation’s capital? These folks work so hard. We need WAMU.

An excruciating number of talented journalists are getting laid off from the Los Angeles Times today. My former colleagues are among the best of the business, and they don't deserve this. Any news outlet would be lucky to have them.

I'm still at a loss of what to say about these layoffs at Los Angeles Times. I'm still employed. But this is such a blow to journalism, not just in California but across the U.S. -- and at a critical juncture for what's left of democracy too.
