We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Helen Comerford, esteemed artist, curator/writer and jazz musician. We send our sincere sympathies to her family and friends.

Irish artist and art activist Sarah Purser was born on this day in 1848. She was an influential figure in Irish artistic circles in the late 19 & 20 centuries. Her artistic legacy will be celebrated in the Hugh Lane Gallery exhibition, Sarah Purser: Champion of Irish Art, in July

Sir John Lavery was born on this day in Belfast in 1856. He was a diverse artist who painted a range of subjects including portraits, landscapes, and seascapes.
In 1935, he gifted the Gallery the exceptional Lady Lavery Memorial Bequest, comprised of 34 paintings.

Today we celebrate the birthday of the great Irish artist, Harry Clarke, who was born on this day in 1889. Clarke studied stained glass at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art under stained-glass master, A. E. Child, and at the Royal College of Art, South Kensington in London.
