I enjoy being outside with my dogs in the Scottish Highlands. Moved house recently across the Moray Firth to live on a farm. I am busy trying to make a garden..

What better subject for early colour photography than the great Impressionist painter Claude Monet? Here he is in front of his house in Giverny, France, in 1921. I've colour-rebalanced this autochrome - which has a remarkable 3D effect to it - it is not colourised.

I've babelised a charming springtime scene to cheer you today: Flowers in the garden of a French house in 1920, photographer unknown - taken in colour 101 years ago, it has a beautiful three dimensional quality to it. It is original colour and not colourised 🌹

Every year I watch the cherry trees outside my house come in to blossom, at the right time I fill a bag with the fallen blossom and make one artwork. It's pretty much the only time I pre collect materials and why I only collect one bag and make one artwork. Annual rituals.

The Japanese technique called Daisugi, enables foresters to grow more wood using less land and consists in heavy pruning of a mother cedar tree, which encourages tall, thin saplings to shoot upwards. In other words, think of it as a bonsai on a large scale ow.ly/ukzy50B0MO5

Those are not flowers or snowflakes. These are a species of Planthopper Nymphs and they can spring quite quickly out of harm’s way [source and full video: buff.ly/3069ctY]

If you are going to take an early colour photograph, go for it 100% and capture as much colour as you can! That seems to be the motto of Wilhelm Tobien who took this stunningly vibrant photograph in a Baden garden in June 1928. It is original colour. 😍

The mild and settled spell of weather doesn't look to last very long now. Was hoping it'd last at least 5-7 days, but the mild and unsettled theme looks to continue for the rest of February. Temperatures also look to be above average making the cold spell a very distant memory.
