Any school leaders who are perfectionists?
Research shows it does NOT help you perform better. In fact (I laughed out loud when I read this from Adam Grant), 'If perfectionism were a medication, the label would alert us to common side effects. Warning: may cause stunted growth.'
Are you or your teachers overwhelmed by initiative fatigue?
When we bring new initiatives into a school, sometimes we forget to evaluate & remove those that no longer serve us. I love the concept of a NOT-TO-DO list from Douglas Reeves.

Yes, we need to support teachers when they feel burned out for their own well-being, but did you know that research shows STUDENTS DO WORSE IN SCHOOLS when teachers are exhausted?
See Chase Mielke's book for some excellent, concrete suggestions to combat this.

Leaders, want to ensure your communication is truly effective? Business management guru Patrick Lencioni says you need to communicate your message 7 times. Yes, that's right, over & over & over & over & over & over & over.
Otherwise, your staff will think, this, too, will pass.
Any perfectionist principals out there? 👀
If you need a quick cure, take a look at the research on the effectiveness of perfectionism that Adam Grant includes in his book, Hidden Potential (@penguinrandom).
I love this idea from Adam Grant. Sometimes it's hard for school leaders to get honest feedback, even when they ask for it. Next time, rather than asking for feedback, try asking for ADVICE.
That small change just might do the trick 😉

Leaders thinking about recruiting teachers of color need to think beyond the process of recruitment.

We knew teacher RETENTION was an issue, but this?!
A 2022 Merrimack College survey found that 44% of teachers are LIKELY or VERY LIKELY to leave the job within the next two years.
It’s time to grab some ideas to stem this tide from Chase Mielke’s Illuminate the Way (@ASCD).
