Not to add gas to the flames of the Canada Disability Benefit, but the $200/month is the max amount people with the DTC will receive, the max. In reality, for many, they won’t see the $2,400 / annual level. The CDB has turned out to be more heartbreaking than ground-breaking.

Hello BC? These LNG bus ads and billboards are all part of the disinformation campaign the oil and gas majors are running globally to make us think it’s okay to frack & build more LNG in a world in 🔥

“If humanity does not act swiftly to limit it, climate change will cost a typical child born in 2024 at least around $500,000 over their lifetime—and possibly as much as $1 million—through a combination of cost-of-living increases and reduced earnings.” consumerreports.org/home-garden/cl…

The $200 maximum monthly amount for the Canada Disability Benefit likely came from Finance/Prime Minister Office. Certainly not from disability communities across the country.

It can be hard to see progress on climate sometimes but here is a great example:
Montreal will no longer allow gas in new buildings of up to three storeys as of Oct 2024, and will ban the fossil fuel as of April 2025 in larger new builds. 1/2 nationalobserver.com/2024/04/29/new…

Non-partisan experts who actually study the matter are clear: the has a negligible impact on inflation; most Canadians receive more from the rebates than they pay at the pump and elsewhere; and it does help lower emissions. thewalrus.ca/pierre-poiliev…

They also have polling showing that people with disabilities - ya know, the people they promised to actually listen to - universally feel that $200 is alarmingly, insultingly inadequate. But what do they know? twitter.com/InclusionCA/st…

2023 was by far the most destructive wildfire season on record in Canada.

While it’s still too early to say how the rest of this year’s wildfire season will play out, the total burn area so far in 2024 is 20X what it was by this time last year.👀

Bank of England official warns climate change may trigger large price shocks & force higher interest rates.

“If the shocks become bigger, if they become more frequent, then it becomes harder I think for monetary policymakers to look through those shocks”

Had a few people come at me recently, saying there is no climate crisis and I’ve been suckered by a media campaign. Wrong. There is no debate, and I won’t waste my time arguing about it. twitter.com/WeatherProf/st…

Palestine is experiencing a unseasonal heatwave of almost 40c. This makes plastic tents in which 100,000s of Palestinians are sheltering unbearable: a 5 month old baby reportedly died of heat exhaustion. Climate adaptation is a question of class, justice and liberation.
