This woodcock was brought in when he was found on the ground. He had some blood in his mouth & may have flown into a window. Other than this he was fairly bright, so he was kept in for a period of monitoring and when he was feeling better, he was released back into the wild.

Meet Ian and Kathleen Hawes, 2 volunteers who will be attending the Royal Garden party at Buckingham palace in May for their charity work, after being volunteer rescuers for over 25 years. Like all our volunteers, we think they are incredible & very deserving of this honour.

Here is our wildlife nurse Tasha to tell you what’s happening in the background. One of our final year veterinary students from Nottingham university is stitching a wound on a starling after he flew into a window. The procedure is being supervised by Vet Steve.

This pigeon was found covered in a sticky substance with his feet tangled up in a plastic bag. We were able to cut the plastic off his feet &, using Ease off, removed the sticky substance from his feathers. Please remember how damaging plastic, & other litter, can be to wildlife.

This hedgehog was brought in after getting caught in some football netting. Fortunately, we were able to cut the netting off. He had some markings where the netting had been cutting in to his skin so will stay with us for observation for a little while to ensure these heal well.

This rabbit came in with Myxomatosis; a severe & often fatal disease causing swelling, redness & ulcers around the eyes, nose & genitals, breathing problems & loss of appetite. We're delighted this bunny has pulled through & is on her way to making a full recovery.

This little bird is a dunnock; she came into us with an injury to her eye which she is receiving treatment for. She'll stay in a recovery cage until she has finished her treatment with us, & once we are confident her eye has fully healed we can release her back to the wild.

Hoppy Friday! This frog came to us with wounds to his back. We provided immediate first aid to the wounds when he arrived. As frogs absorb moisture through their skin, he's receiving regular baths as part of his treatment where he is immersed in a solution containing antibiotics.

This magpie was found hanging from a tree, caught in some string. It was wrapped tightly around her feathers, preventing her from flying. We removed the string & fortunately there was no lasting damage. She'll stay with us for a short period before release back to the wild.

This fox is suffering from Mange; a condition caused by mites irritating the skin. Fortunately we are able to treat mange & are sure that he will go on to make a good recovery. During his treatment here he is kept in isolation to stop this spreading and is enjoying a bit of rest.

This tiny grass snake was brought in to be checked over when she was found in someone’s house. Fortunately, when we checked her over, she was perfectly healthy & must have just got a bit lost! We we’re able to release her back out into the wild where she belongs.

This badger is getting some much-needed rest after a road traffic accident. He was suffering from injuries to his jaw, swelling to his face & a bleeding mouth. He is already responding well to treatment. When he is well enough, We will release him back to where he came from.

This hedgehog was having issues eating as 4 of his deciduous teeth had not fallen out when his permanent teeth had started growing in & this was affecting the growth of his other teeth. Our vet removed the 4 remaining incisors, & he's already doing much better.

This long tailed tit was brought in when he was found weak & unable to fly. Fortunately, none of his bones are broken & we're confident that with rest and fluids he'll make a good recovery. Once a successful test flight has been carried out, we can release him back into the wild.

Unlike a lot of other birds, Pigeons breed all year round. This feral pigeon came in with an infection in his right eye. We're treating it with antibiotics & he's making a good recovery. Pigeons are intelligent & are one of only a few birds that recognise themselves in a mirror.
