Other hot button ERAS application topic that’s been bubbling: Publications and a potential limit. The AAMC shares today it will not make significant changes to Publications for the 2025 cycle.

Good news update: The AAMC is reinstating the “Hobbies & Interests” section for the 2025 ERAS cycle. Hobbies will no longer be an “Experience Type” within the 10-activity limit.

Currently rereading The Song of Achilles and just rewatched episode 3 of The Last of Us because apparently WRECKING myself emotionally to end the year is my aesthetic.

Was waiting to see this part—whether those that did not have FAP benefits for med school apps could get ERAS fee assistance. I guess AAMC quietly decided “no” for this year, which is unfortunate.

AAMC also says it is evaluating its ERAS fee model “to simplify and streamline” it for 2025 cycle. Specifics of what this means should be released within 3 months. Cost has been a real (and fair) pain point for residency applicants. Hope this produces meaningful change. #AAMC23

The AAMC announced today that its Fee Assistance Program for med school applicants will be extended to include residency applicants, automatically applying a 60% discount for any applicant who received FAP benefit for AMCAS. Great news for low SES residency applicants. #AAMC23

It doesn’t quite give me the joy of “Go Cubs Go” at Wrigley, but a stadium full of Phillies fans very loudly singing “Dancing on my Own,” an absolute gay anthem, is pretty great.

The silver lining to summer nearing its end is the return of college football. And what a start today with Colorado upsetting TCU. Gotta hand it to Deion and the Buffs!
