Today one of the most important union elections in modern American history begins.

Volkswagen workers in Chattanooga, Tennessee start to vote on joining the UAW.

If they win it won't just be thousands more union members, it'll be a turning point for labor in America.

United Teachers Los Angeles and SEIU Local 99 won’t stand by and let Alberto M. Carvalho put the squeeze on students and workers by making us all do more with less—LAUSD is projected to have an absurd $6 billion in reserves by July. We say NO to the Carvalho cuts—give our schools the funding we need to thrive

Despite more than $5 billion in reserves, LAUSD is underfunding our school sites. Students will pay the price if these cuts go through.

The district must provide enough funds to maintain all existing site-funded positions and return the carryover money to each school.

This week, UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz wrote a letter to Carvalho demanding the district take swift action to correct the district's failure to allocate sufficient funding to school sites.

The district has the money to fund our schools — they are just refusing to do it.

“The freedom to read is a bedrock democratic principle,” Beilock said. “Students deserve to see themselves, their families, and their communities in the books they can take off the school library’s shelves.”

👀 ONE of the key takeaways from this, Supt Carvalho made a promise to:

📢Close 50 vacant positions in the LASPD budget, divesting those funds from policing and investing those funds to improve safe passage and enhanced training efforts around RJ and de-escalation techniques!!

Housing justice is an education issue.

For many of our students, housing insecurity and homelessness is a daily trauma that hurts their education.

United to House LA is a transformative win for our city and for our schools.

In just one year, Measure ULA has raised $215 million for housing justice programs. According to researcher Joan Ling (and Move LA Leadership Board member!), the City of LA has never had this amount of permanent revenues for affordable housing before. abc7.com/los-angeles-ma…
