James Dickey was born 100 years ago today (2 February 1923 - 19 January 1997) and was Poet-in-Residence and First Carolina Professor of English at USC from 1968-1997. The Irvin Dept. is home to such treasures as his typewriter, life mask, and first editions of his works.

Langston Hughes was born on February 1, 1901. Some of his early work, such as these magazine appearances in Esquire from the 1930s, will be on display in our gallery, along with many other important African American literary first editions, Feb. 6 - Aug. 11.
